BIO:

I am a Mexican-American and Coahuiltecan freelance writer, sensitivity reader, and editor based in Austin, Texas, who mostly grew up in Spain, Egypt, and South Africa, and came home to Texas every summer. I have an Honors Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with minors in English, Political Science, and Cognitive Science. My own writing is often inspired by Mesoamerican mythology, and I love blending genres.

TESTIMONIALS:
Amanda Robbins, Senior Editor, Capstone Press
Laura Galán-Wells has been a delight to work with and an invaluable source of expertise on Indigenous peoples’ history and culture. As a consultant for Capstone Press, a children’s publisher, she has evaluated our content and offered suggestions to make it more accurate, with a more well-rounded view of history. Her notes have enriched our content and, by extension, the minds of young readers.
Elle Ward, Managing Art Director, DK Children's
I've used Laura as a sensitivity reader on several books and wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone. She's thoughtful, considered and thorough, and is really lovely to work with.
Angie Ransome-Jones, Ghostwriter of 10+ years
It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with Laura Galán-Wells on the line and copy editing of my client’s book project. Her steady guidance, gentle leadership, and editing expertise carried this project through to completion. I have worked with many editors in my decade of ghostwriting and I can truly say that Laura’s thoroughness as an editor are unparalleled! I look forward to working with her again in the future!
Mia Calderon, Author of Where the Angels Bloom (poetry collection)
Laura has been amazing to work with! She helped me tremendously with developmental and line editing, guiding me through a process I am very new to, and showing me techniques for finding my rhythm while maintaining my poetry's style. Her edits are “suggestions,” which made me feel comfortable to take some into consideration while keeping others as they were. Laura has been such an amazing guide through this whole experience and anyone would be lucky to have her as their editor!
